No matter whether your skin tone is light or professionally tanned, there is one detail that many brides want on their wedding day, in addition to a perfect wedding dress, makeup and hairdo – a perfect complexion, with a golden undertone that also looks natural! Glowing and beautiful skin makes you self-confident and happy! Below we provide five tips on achieving a perfect wedding tan.
1. Consult with experts, and you will get valuable and professional advice.
Since there are many different ways to tan (starting with tanning at the beach and ending with spray tanning, from d Päike tanning to tanning under beauty lamps), we recommend you start with in-depth consultations with specialists in a tanning salon. During a consultation with a d Päike sun consultant, the date of the important event and client’s expectations regarding the tanning result will first be noted. With the help of the consultant, a simple step-by-step tanning schedule will be created for the client, which avoids sunburn and ensures the desired tanning result for exactly the right time. According to Jelena, a D päike service manager, “We are always very thankful and happy when a client comes and tells us about her wedding day. Brides don’t really differ much from other clients, but there are certain nuances – personalised recommendations regarding tanning and the wedding makeup, tanning and the wedding dress, etc.”
2. Slow and steady wins the race.
The tanning schedule developed for the client is based on the client’s skin type (see skin type test), previous tanning experiences, and the desired tanning result. In order to achieve a skin-friendly and healthy tan, one session per 24 hours is recommended. However, this does not mean that one should have unduly long tanning sessions or allow your skin to burn.
Jelena, a D päike service manager, says, “There is no reason to worry if the colour is not visible right after the first tanning session (e.g. in the case of D päike tanning, the result will not be visible until two to three days after tanning, due to the natural action of your skin pigment). Developing your tanned complexion gradually, with shorter tanning sessions lengthening into longer ones, is the only possible way to achieve a beautiful and long-lasting tan. Tanning too frequently or having sessions that are too long increases the risk of sunburn. Sunburns must always be treated with the proper skincare and remedy. It will then take time for the skin to recover and heal in time for the wedding, and this can put achieving the desired result at risk…”
3. Skincare before and after tanning is essential.
Everyday skincare is essential to achieving a uniform, fresh and beautiful, as well as glowingly golden and long-lasting complexion. Tanning is preceded by skin exfoliation and cleaning, and followed up with moisturising. “Naturally, the selection of the right tanning is cream is no less important. This does not mean sun protection creams, but professional tanning products for achieving the desired tanning result. The selection includes products with a slight flushing effect, self-tanning products, creams with a golden undertone, etc. But to start, we recommend using a tester to find the best cream for your skin. In order to avoid any surprises, I don’t recommend testing creams in the week preceding the wedding or the week of the wedding. I also don’t recommend increasing the length of the tanning sessions or the strength of the equipment at that time,” Jelena explains.
4. Clean your skin. Take off your clothes. But on your glasses!
When going to the salon during your lunch hour or in the afternoon, some small but important details tend to be forgotten – rushing to save time, most people forget to remove their makeup (including acne medication)… It is very important to note that most makeup contains sun protection and, for example, skin irritation/burns can occur when acne medication reacts to UV rays.
When tanning at the salon and developing your wedding complexion, you might take off all your clothes, or at least those covering your upper body – a beautiful bride does want to see tan lines anywhere. Everything must be perfect when wearing your beautiful dress!
The last but not least important area to protect is your eyes! Eye protection is always available at tanning salons – in order to prevent possible eye irritation/redness. To make sure your eyes will sparkle on your wedding day, we most warmly recommend that your use eye protection!
5. Smile, enjoy, relax!
Jelena, D Päike: “Don’t rush when you come to the salon to tan. Try to find enough time to enjoy the scheduled tanning minutes, and to totally dedicate this time to yourself! Relax, breathe deeply and calmly, enjoy the good music and warmth of the light, and gather your energy. Before the big day, every free minute is priceless and unique, and worth its weight in gold!”
