Are you pregnant and wondering if tanning is allowed to You?
You are not the first woman to worry about whether sun and tanning are allowed during pregnancy, whether and what tanning creams could be used, whether tanning and creams have any effect on your baby’s health and pregnancy. As we talk about this topic, we are very aware that you want to protect yourself and your baby, and we are happy to share what a pregnant woman should know about tanning in pregnancy at the tanning salon.
Moderate sunbathing is not forbidden during pregnancy, but there are some things a pregnant woman should know before going to the sunbathing salon.
Sunlight, or UV radiation, has different effects on the human body and also on the pregnant woman. E.g. during pregnancy, the woman’s production of melanocyte-stimulating hormone increases – ie. sunburn deepens the pigmentation of the skin (a natural defense mechanism of the body brought to man by nature). This can make the pigment spots stronger, the nipple fields and in some cases the outer genitals darker. Thus, the risk of sunburn for the pregnant mother (whose skin is more sensitive during pregnancy) is less, and the body parts important for the health of the child are also afforded extra protection. However, it may be harmful for the fetus to be tanned if she is dehydrated or overheated in the mother’s body due to exposure to the sun. Here, however, we strongly encourage you to keep your body’s fluid levels under control (by drinking enough clean, unflavoured and gas-free water throughout the day).
Why not avoid the sun, though?
People here are virtually depleted of vitamin D supplies. However, vitamin D is essential for the normal development of both mother’s health and the unborn child. Vitamin D is needed for the fetus to develop its bones normally. Vitamin D also contributes to boosting immunity, improving metabolism, circulation and protecting the skin. However, the best natural and possible way for the human body to get vitamin D is through sunlight!
How to decide whether to sunbathe or not !?
As always, the principles of reasonableness and moderation apply in life. We also highly value the professionalism of our field. So D päike definitely advises a pregnant woman to consult with her GP, gynecologist and / or midwife – they have the best overview of the nuances of you and your baby’s health. If you are both healthy, you probably won’t see any reason for doctors to stop tanning. All you have to do is choose a moderate tanning session and tanning frequency. Be sure to wear sunglasses while tanning. We also recommend listening to your body – towards the end of your pregnancy you may also be more prone to sunlight without feeling tired. If the sun seems to make your child alive, cover your stomach with a towel. To avoid excessive heat, we recommend using the refreshing Aquafresh function or adjusting the tanning appliance ventilation system.
